folk@canowindra ... 29th April

For a beautiful Sunday afternoon, come to taste Canowindra this Sunday (April 29) for folk@canowindra. The mellow tones & excellent repertoire of Clare Coleman, this month's feature act, are going to be a treat for everyone who attends! Clare started singing with the Adelaide children's choir whilst still in primary school, and went on to learn guitar; singing at weddings with her brother all through high school.  She joined a band once but broke up with the bass player who owned the PA. That was the end of that short career! She went back to playing with her brother at a pub in Adelaide. In the 90s, Clare moved to Sydney and was distracted by completing her PhD in Pure Mathematics. She recently started performing again, mostly material from the 80s.

As usual, folk@canowindra also includes an opportunity for musos and poets to contribute to the open mike session.  Entry is free, with a donation towards the feature act; all enquiries to Nerida Cuddy on 0429 048 603.

Folk@Canowindra this Sunday ... 27th November

Hi everyone,
what a beautiful note to end the year on - the lovely Hannah Sunderland has been kind enough to step into the gap and come out from Newcastle to be our feature act!  She has JUST finished work on a long-awaited great new EP (as well as her year of uni)!  So come along and welcome her back to her home away from home!  You won't regret it!  She's a great singer-songwriter, and as a performer she just gets better and better.

We've also had some WONDERFUL new acts over the past few months (thanks to all of you, we're loving your input!) travelling in from all over the place... If you haven't been for a while, why don't you come and see what's been happening in your absence!

Hope to see you soon - all the info is below!

PRESS RELEASE
November 27 is the last gathering for 2011 for folk@canowindra!  It has been an excellent year of music, and a great year of growth for this regional folk, poetry and accoustic music club.  People are now attending from Canowindra, Cowra, Orange, Forbes, Portland/Bathurst, and more!  The quality of music&  poetry has been excellent, from both feature acts and the open mike.

It is fitting that for the last hurrah of the year, we will have a favourite act returning to town.
Indie-Folk artist Hannah Sunderland began writing songs in earnest during the 3 years she lived in Canowindra; and she is always glad to return with new musical offerings. Based now in Newcastle, she has recently finished work on her first studio EP with the help and guidance of Mike McCarthy. She is hoping for an official release in early 2012. Her acoustic songs are a melodic meandering of introspection and the search for greater meaning and truth, with influences ranging from Sufjan Stevens to Bjork.  You can hear some of Hannah's BRAND new EP at http://www.myspace.com/hanwenafen.

Come along and experience it for yourself - Taste Canowindra, Ferguson St, Canowindra: Sunday, November 27, 4-6pm, free entry (optional donation for the feature act), all welcome.  Enquiries Nerida Cuddy 0429 048 603.

Folk@Canowindra this Sunday ... 30th October

It has been a HECTIC month of music for Folk@Canowindra!!

First the AMAZING Womindra festival from Oct 7-9.  What a rich & wonderful range of quality music!  If you missed out on it... you really missed out!

Then a lovely mellow mix of performers last night at the wonderful Canowindra Twilight markets in Memorial Park.  A feast of food, wine, friendship, and great music!

On Sunday October 30, we will be gathering again for our monthly session at taste Canowindra, Ferguson St; from 4-6pm.  There are a number of new musicians & listeners who will be joining us, so come early to get a seat!

Our feature act will be Mark Corkery, from Young, who unfortunately was unable to join us as was expected for our September gathering. Mark has been around on both the solo music scene and as parts of various ensembles since the late 90s; regularly sliding between genres such as folk, blues, funk, rock, post-rock, electronic and more recently 'folk-tronica' (borrowing elements from folk and electronic musics). The common thread in amongst all of this genre hopping has been the raw uniqueness of Mark's vocal style and his use of emotive melodies set to whatever stylistic backdrop he encounters. On this occasion, it will be just Mark and his guitar; which will be the perfect way to experience Mark's incredible voice & style.

This is a family friendly event, with plenty of room for kids to run around outside.  Entry is free, with a donation box for the feature performer's expenses.  Any enquiries, contact Nerida Cuddy 0429 048 603.

Folk@Canowindra this Sunday ... 26th June

This Sunday at 4-6pm, folk@canowindra will be held at "taste Canowindra", Ferguson St, Canowindra.  This monthly event is a gathering for music and poetry lovers from the region - both performers and listeners!  Last month's event was very exciting with at least four new acts appearing, and an extremely high quality of music!  Make sure you arrive on time - it's getting harder and harder to find a seat!

This month's feature act promises to be something different again!  Adam Bell is a guitar-slinging artist who usually fronts raucous Canberrra rockabilly band The King Hits. There is another side to Adam's guitar work though, he is a great admirer of the man Steve Earle once vowed to stand on Bob Dylan's coffee-table in his cowboy boots and call the greatest songwriter of all time: Townes Van Zandt. At the Canowindra Folk Club, Adam will be in acoustic mode and will be playing some Townes and whatever else takes his cotton-picking fancy. It will be his first ever solo gig but, trust me, he is not to be missed.

A special message to the poetry lovers in the region!  NEXT month's folk@canowindra gathering will be a poetry special.  On July 31, we will have 4 feature poets, and there will be a poetry competition with prizes for both original and performed poetry.  So please start preparing.

All are welcome to folk@canowindra, it's a great way to while away the last Sunday of the month!  Any enquiries, call Nerida 0429 048 603.
