Cornerstone Community
Our Advocate

Gil Cann
Cornerstone periodically appoints a well-known and widely respected Australian Christian leader to be our ‘Advocate’. This person acts both as a referee on Cornerstone’s behalf, and also as our advisor on behalf of the Christian community at large to whom Cornerstone is accountable. They have open access to all our personnel, records and operations. Their role is very similar in principle to that of the 'protector', historically appointed by the church to monitor traditional religious orders.
Our current Advocate is Gil Cann, who was until recently Minister-at-large for both the Fellowship for Revival (Uniting Church) and the Australian Evangelical Alliance, and editor of the ‘Working Together’ periodical. With decades of experience in pastoral and evangelistic ministry, leadership training and consultancy for churches and other Christian organisations, Gil has an extensive and influential ministry. The support for Cornerstone Community of both Gil and Cathy, his wife, is greatly valued.
Our previous Advocate was Dr Robert Banks, formerly Director of the Macquarie Christian Studies Institute, Sydney.
"There are very few movements in this country which take the challenge to be authentic followers of Christ as seriously as Cornerstone Community. This applies equally to everyone involved, from the most senior leadership to the most newly-arrived trainee.
Consequently the integrity of their mission team members' lives makes a big impact for Christ wherever they work, whether it be amongst civic leaders, the business community, local communities as a whole, young people - employed and unemployed, and students at tertiary, secondary and primary levels.
As well as all this they frequently bring encouragement, hope, new vision, and a new understanding of evangelism to the local churches who request their assistance."
